someone calls, leaves me a voicemail, i get an SMS but the voicemail indicator (the little tape icon o_o ubin the picture below) does not light up on the phone tile on my windows phone.

apparently, if you are on Vodafone you can call and ask for MWI (message waiting indicator) to be enabled.

sbiddle sent me an MWI message from his SMS gateway and proved that, with the right message, the indicator can work.

When i rang 2 deg care i didnt have much success.  They refered me to teh procedure for enabling SMS notifications (after i told them i'd tried that) and subsequently told me that their colleague also has an android mobile and that it worked for them....

Rang from my work Vodafone network phone to my personal HTC Titan on Telecom XT network, left a voicemail and I have the missed call icon and the voicemail symbol as well on the phone tile. HTC titan is parallel imported from UK and works well here in NZ.

Do whatever you want to do man.

you can choose whether to get TXT sent in the voicemail options menu when you dial up voicemail.  check that.  also look for an SMS threat from 202 and see if the txt just has been added at the bottom of the 'conversation'.  if you dont mark the previous ones 'read'. i dont think it shows the new ones at the top.

If there's one thing more irritating than voice mail, it's... voice mail. Lucky Telecom sends a SMS with a number you can tap and when called it will play that specific message. Other than this, I hate having to call, go through instructions, delete, save, delete, save... Even with type ahead it's a waste.

Send me the message via email with an attached audio file and I listen to it. Otherwise might be automatically deleted in a few days without ever been listened to.

2deg automatically plays voicemails when you dial in which helps

my problem is that an SMS notification is too easy to miss, or dismiss, and then you just dont know or remember that a voicemail is waiting and 'unread'.

perhaps i can forward my calls to my office extension when not answered - that way i'll get a email with audio file *and* a speech to text translation

That's a pretty cool idea - do any mobile operators do that? I have a couple of VOIP accounts with different providers and they all email the audio file as an attachment every time I get a voicemail. Would be nice if 2degrees offered that as an option.

Short of forwarding unanswered calls to for eg 2talk who will email voicemails to you, no. Would be great if it was another 2degrees first :-D
