I am posting this in the 2D forum since there was been some active discussion on 1G of data with 2D lately but it applied to all mobile carriers of course.

Is 1G of data enough each month for you?

I paid for 1G of data last month before I knew about the bonus and with that pack, changed my Internet access a bit viz.

I had the phone on all the time connected to the Internet the only time it was not doing 3G was at home or work. Even if a free wifi were available I would not usually connect because many of them has restrictive policies about what port traffic is allowed to traverse.

I would tether the phone to my tablet and surf with that, do some VoIP (Vonage mainly to the US), stream some music from Google Music, email of courss and other miscellaneous web activity. I wasn't streaming any video because there are no viable streaming video sites available in NZ and sites like Netflix etc, need much more hacking if you want to get them on your phone.

Anyway after a month I found that I had used about 600MB. So for me 1G is plenty.

I was just wondering what other people's experience were.

I have 1Gb on my iPhone and another 1Gb on my iPad and usually find this more than adequate.Having said that this month has been unusual in that I have been using 3G on my iPad much more than I normally would and for me one of the major advantages of 2degrees is that I can buy another 1Gb pack before the end of the billing cycle if the need arises.

I use Wifi at home, and 3G everywhere else.

If I drive to work, then I get through no more than 250MB in a month - and I don't especially avoid anything that uses data.
When I commuted on the bus (40 mins each way) I would get through about 1-1.5GB/month, mostly from watching youtube on the bus.

I use my phone with absolute disregard as far as data usage (no youtube or streaming other than the odd email or funny link) and i consume between 1 & 2gb each month with very normal usage.

As a consumer we should be able to utilise our devices as intended. I am lucky that with my VF 3gb/mth plan i don't have to worry so much but I see so many people that have to manage their use, it in part takes away the benefit of having these devices imho.

Yes. I'm on a 500 MB plan with Telecom and this is usually sufficient for me (I did upgrade it to 1 GB for a month when I knew that I'd be using more than usual).

On a work phone/plan - I have to get by on 100MB per month! The only way I stay under that is to make use of home and free wi-fi services and make sure I limit any browsing to only absolute essentials, and watch carefully the size of attachments on any emails when on 3G.

Just about everyone at work has a smartphone now, and strangely our work IT department still think that 100MB is more than adequate, so won't change it (maybe it was 5 years ago!). I would love to have 1G to play with, what a treat.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

actually I would suspect that it is your finance department that doesn't want to pay for more than 100 Megs

I use Wifi at home and 3G at work for both iPhone and iPad. Both get 1GB each month and I use it without paying any attention to how much I use. I have never run out.

P
We usually get 250MB with our corporate plans which seems to be enough for email and general surfing.

I never hook my phone to my home wifi and use the phone to do whatever I want, whenever I want.

So I go through 3Gb each and every month. I download several podcasts each week, I watch youtube regularly, I surf trademe, stuff, herald, bbc, football365, etc all the time. Its also used for Facebook and Twitter.

I have a smartphone and I use it as such. If youre just getting the odd email every now and again whats the point ?

I have 50MB via the 2D $19 text combo

I use approx 10MB of that a month. I have no reason to use data on my cellphone (working in IT, I can surf as much as I like at work and when I am home I am generally at or near a computer)

Since I drive to work I can't surf while travelling and when I am out and about its a good reason to actually remove myself from the internet world and 'always being connected'

I drive also and have tons of internet available at home and work but I could not live in 100Mb let alone 10Mb.

My phone is always connected and I regularly tether my tablet to it.

I hadn't thought of YouTube use because I drive but the last time I tried to watch video when on a bus I got motion sickness :-(

But VoIP is very handy especially with friends in the US and Vonage free calling.
