$349 special for the A2 at The Warehouse. Is it worth it?

I still don't know if I should get this with the problems it has at the moment & waiting for a good price drop over time. I see the latest update seems to have smoothed things out? But what's holding me back is not able to side load apps.

I currently have the T2200 which is sluggish.

We purchased ours when the Warehouse had them at $349. Did a price match with Noel Leemings. There has been a couple of firmware updates since. Whilst we probably haven't put it under a lot of stress, so far we are very happy with it. I haven't recently tried sideloading but when I did try I wasn't able to do so. I haven't tried since the most recent firmware update. I would also like to be able to sideload apps and have indicated this to Dish TV.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere;

I'm interested to know whether the A2 can playback recordings done on a T2200? e.g I keep my T2200 active and install an A2 and it can access the T2200 recordings?

Also while I'm here have they included features to set the max number of recordings of a programme? e.g. If i set it to record the evening news I only want the most recent (say) 3 and it deletes the others? Sad to say on the T2200 we are recording Emmeradale and Coro catchup and I am forever manually deleting old episodes which are filling up the disk. This was one of the features in SageTV and Google bought them out hopefully some of the neat SagetV features have not been lost.

I returned my unit over the weekend. Just had enough of it. My partner is now thinking of subscribing to Sky TV again :-( I wish there was a good out of the box solution for freeview ondemand and recording.

Agreed, why can't they just 'copy' the MySky. It works fine, and is probably the best off the shelf PVR available in NZ today.

Having said that - in our house I can't remember the last time we recorded anything. If we've missed something, it is usually available OnDemand (though I wish Prime would come to the OD party).

has anyone installed Kodi on this as yet?

I have quite a reasonable library of DVD's that I have ripped and stored on a NAS and the family find Kodi quite easy to use

Oh that's no good. I've already taken advantage of the special & the delivery special & ordered a unit ($329) from The Warehouse hoping updates will fix other remaining issues. undecided

An update from me, having been using the kit for a week now.

The latest update to the firmware did seem to improve things in general but we had another occasion last night with the on demand content getting all jittery like bad buffering and in the end another restart was required of the box to clear it. It's almost like a memory leak or similar causing things to slowly fail over time. The box had been up and running continuously since the last firmware update.

Here's one niggle.

Watching recorded live TV show - the UI has the ability to fast forward / reverse at assorted speeds. I'm struggling some times to get the remote to send the commands to setp up the speeds from 2x to 4 x etc... I am also having more difficulty getting things to rewind or even go into rewind.. and when the screen is showing content during rewind (in particular)  is seems to loop the same scenes several times spanning 1-3 secs before showing earlier scenes while your rewinding.. it's just strange but it makes the users ability to smoothly move forwards and backwards between pre-recorded TV a pretty rough experience. As a contrast fast forwarding through an on demand bit of content is very quick and you can get 30-40 mins into a show quickly.

As a UI enhancement I would love it if the Freeview app offered (like sky TV does) the user the option of typing in a time stamp to jump to when opting to watch a pre-recorded live TV show. Because if you wanted to (let's say) watch the TV weather at the end of the 6pm news, there is no way to quickly jump to 57 mins in and instead you have to 'slowly' fastforward (even at 32x) through the entire show. Not good.

I've noticed hours need a restart now and then when watching on demand - dropped frames and out of sync. A reboot fixes it.

And again having problem with lost login. I think it clears the login if the network is unavailable (it happened a few times when I had to restart the router due to ISP problem and firmware update).

Its frustrating enough for me, lucky I had time to do this as I am not working. I class myself as sort of tech savy but still could not get it to work properly. There will be heaps of people who would have bought this box and have just expected it to work. Really disappointed as I had high hopes for this product.

@freitasm did you report these issues to Dish TV? I have reported some issues I have come accross. My latest is some pixelisation that has occurred on recorded content using UHF. Not too sure if it is the device or perhaps my aerial. I have also noticed that sometimes the sound appears to drop out briefly on live tv. Hardly perceptable to my deaf ears but it is there.

Can someone please clarify what is meant by comments re "reboot" for this device.   Just power off or a hidden reset button?   Thanks.

Open the Android Settings menu (the cogwheel on top right of main screen), go to About and there's a Restart option there.
