I don't have the black bar thing. It has been mentioned a few times but always seems to come back to one of the TV settings.

Yes Manual recordings and some prime recordings for me don't seem to add the EPG name info to them. It's been mentioned elsewhere so hopefully is address if/when PlayTV officially comes to NZ. Really who cares how it was recorded, more it should show the name of what it is.

Hard Drive Screws, mine wasn't that bad, but yes it is really important to use a larger screwdriver than some may initially want to use. It needs to fit the screw properly otherwise you will risk destroying the screwhead pattern.

We'll I reformatted my hard drive (backed up PS3 to another driver, formated, reinstalled) and also adjusted the location of where the PlayTV box sat behind my cabinet and last night recorded (ha nearly said taped!) Top Gear and watched TV3 CSI at the same time and it only pixelated 3 times in the whole hour. Not sure what I've done, but it's a LOT better?!

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 8MB 500GB SATA 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive.

Got mine from laptopcity or something as I wanted to get the PS3 Harmony adaptor as well and it worked out cheaper over all through them. PConlineshop had the cheapest drive by itself I think at the time. Worked out to about $125 I think it was for the drive, including gst but not postage.

Jaxson:
bazzer: Has anyone used it on their PC? THat sounds interesting, would it work straight forwardly in Windows 7? I might give that a go when I get my unit...

Yeah, download slightly modified pinnacle drivers from here:
http://www.ps3news.com/forums/playstation-3-news/sony-playtv-win32-driver-now-available-104764.html#post256054

How does one install the downloaded pinnacle drivers for use on the pc?

I just discovered something interesting. According to the PS3 a one hour show on TV2 is about 2.4GB (and that's HD). Yet on TV3 using gbpvr a one hour is about 5G. I realise that TV3 sends down both a AAC and a DD 5.1 audio track but I wouldn't thought it would make that much difference. So is the difference down to 720p vs 1080i and the possible fact that TVNZ are compressing their stream much on the mux?

Just got mine today, seems to work fine. Now I just need to get better familiarised with the controls etc (or program my Harmony remote properly).

Anyway, the only question I have which I had a quick look but couldn't asnwer is how can you tell which mux the scan has picked up? Or can you to a manual scan? I had a lot of trouble initally with my Freeview box because my aerial is pointed at (roughly) both Waiatarua and Pinehill due to my geography. Waiatarua signal strength was higher (I think) so those channels were being picked up but the quality was not very good. Once I manually scanned teh Pinehill frequencies my problems were solved.

So far, PlayTV seems fine, only slight pixelation on channel change but I just wondered which transmitter it had picked up in its channel scan. Any way of telling? If I want to force it to use Pinehill is there any way to do this?

@bazzer - As far as I can see/know there is no way of seeing the MUX info. If you were pointed at two transmitters, and if you did an "other" region scan, you should find that it would pick up both MUX frequencies would it not? Or are they actually the same frequency from both transmitters? That said, if you did pick up two seperate channel "sets" that would just make it even more confusing with the PlayTV no channel sorting issue.

I do agree though. There needs to be more OSD "enthusiast" info. i.e. bit rates, MUX, sig. strength/quality, audio codec...etc. Or at least the option to display that info if you wanted.

My other box for example scans all the frequency but only picks up the strongest signal (which happens to not be the best signal in my case). Perhaps they're not quite lined up, so Waiatarua powers through but slightly off axis so quality is bad. Don't know if this is feasible.

Anyway, I'm not too bothered as I haven't really noticed any problems. I think the pixelation on channel change is just because it brings up the channel faster than my other box so it doesn't have all the info it need yet.

Actually I think it was mostly the Kordia mux I had prblems with so maybe I need to do some more investigating... So far, so good, anyhow.

Yeah play tv is really light on actual technical info. I've hoped they would put a details type display like you get on the PS3 DVD/Bluray player.

You can force a rescan only under the options menu, but it won't really help you identify much.
There is an old trick you can do though bazzer. If you insert a strong attentuator in your aerial line, it will effective wipe out the weakest signals. That way when you tune in you're far more likely to get the strongest signals. I'm not sure how playtv deals with multiple signals, but at some stage it must be picking one over another.

That's the funny thing. As I've said, on my other box Waiatarua was coming through "stronger" but not as "good". Maybe I should get my aerial aligned?

Interesting. Obviously they got sick of waiting around for Sony to get off their ass. Good on them. I have actually asked Mighty Ape a few times if they knew anything about PlayTV. Their answer was that they had no further info. I did ask some time ago however.

Go Mighty Ape!!!

Still cheaper to get from the UK though.

Anyone with Playtv in Wellington not picking up Prime or Maori TV?
I am in a multi dwelling apartment block but I have a Bravia IDTV which gets all the channels. Just today I noticed that PlayTV isn't picking up Prime or Maori or the radio channels and the chinese channel etc (which I care much less about)
