halfbaked: I purchased the playTv update and now the EPG is much more populated (except for tv3,prime etc)
but ive also noticed that i can no longer see whats on next in the "now/next" section.
I have lost the ability to scroll sideways and check, has anyone else had this issue? Maybe its just a glitch or something so could someone please confirm they can still see whats on next (without opening the full EPG)?

Thanks

Yes you are correct, on tvtv "now next" function has been disabled and can not be used in this function. By turning off the tvtv option using the EIT EPG off Freeview "now next" will then work again.

debo: ....I'm thinking you will be able to directly get to the recorded TV show files via FTP

the PS3 XMB still doesn't support the LATM AAC audio codec used by almost all of the the FVHD channels.

Would be good if you could get the recording off the PS3.  The PS3 seems ok at taking anything from another computer, especially if via a media server program, but it is locked going the other way, ie you can't navigate around the PS3 folders from a computer.

It still doesn't support the freeview LATM AAC audio codec from the home XMB area.
And it won't copy off a file larger than 4GB to an external drive from there either.
Actually under this new PlayTV upgrade I don't think you even get the export to XMB option anymore, unless you pick other as the option or something I'm supposing?

I found this post by Chrool on psx-scene about playTV and psgroove.

"Yeh, ive had a look at them using the ftp program, actually copied my recordings straight to pc instead of needing to move every single file to "home menu" then to usb and then to pc.
all the recordings are m2ts format, same as copying from usb, but each has a .pid file and .ifdb file.
all ifdbs are 33kb and pids are 1kb.
there are also thms which im guessing are thumbnails, but i have been unable to open any in an image viewer(havnt tried photoshop though).
there is also a recordings file which has every recording and what time they were taken, aswell as some hex/unreadable jumbo.
the only problem with copying them straight from the ftp is that every recording has a name like 00009147.m2ts and they all have the timestamp of 12:00am on the day they were recorded.
im hoping that ill be able to decrypt the info and make a usefull vb app for you guys sometime.
Just been looking at the recording files again, and have found a link between file names and recording list.
i would like to make the app, but i have exams coming up, if nothing happens, expect it by end November."

Looks like we can get the files off the PS3 quite easily.  With ftp you can even avoid the 4G file size issue.  Getting them back on to a ps3 looks a lot harder.  You may have to edit this 'recordings file' so playTV recognise the file is there.
It will be interesting to see if there is a configuration file for playTV with settings such as enable 30xFF, 120x ff, 1m skip, tvtv etc.  Then maybe we create a ultimate region with the best features of 'nz' & 'other' regions.

I see that prime / sky is perpetuating  their usual lie about why there is no EPG on the PS3..

"Sky spokesman Tony O'Brien said it had not made Prime's listings available because Sony could not track viewership numbers. Sky has also refused to make Prime listings available for Tivo's EPG."

http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/4370335/PlayTV-cheap-option-for-PS3-owners

So all these TVs , STB and other DVRs  excluding the TiVo fone home to Sky saying who is watching Prime??

Also i see that the title of the article is "PlayTV cheap recording option for PS3 owners"  From what I've read here it's not considered cheap..

Is anybody else having recording issues since the update? I find if I record a programme and use the default recording setting of 1 minute early and 2 minutes late for some reason I get all these copies of the scheduled recording time in my library. I can't view these or do anything with them apart from delete them. Sometimes there can be about thirty of them.

If it keeps up I might just go back to 'other' set up. I don't really care that much if the channels are in the wrong order.

I assume you are in NZ?
Question are you using the tvtv mapping (have you downloaded the PSN update as well?) or are you using the EIT EPG off Freeview themselves?
the recordings are fine with me but in Australia they are experiencing exactly what you are complaining about.

Wilt64, what are the implications of using the NZ vs Other locations within PlayTV now?

I'm picking NZ means you can use TVTV for EPG connection, and channels are in right order, and you lose the 1min skip etc.

Does Other mean you're can't use TVTV, so you're back to now/next for EPG, and channels are in wrong (ie straight mux) order?

After all these updates, are there any new features for the Other location setting?

And do you have to rescan, loose scheduled recordings etc when you change between locations?

Is there a minimum system software version for the new software?  In playTV v1.21 you need to have at least system v3.0.  Can someone upload a picture of the "about" screen in the new software.

Does anyone know if the new software comes on a disc in the playTV box? I want to upgrade playTV without updating my system software.  If I just hit the update software button, the ps3 wants me to update the system software at the same time.

Yeah - I got the same message and was excited for a second. I would probably have mapped trackside to TV3 too just so I'd get more than nothing :)

I'd hope that the mappings can be updated on the fly without a full scan too - not sure as of yet though.

I've not been able to find anything out about tvtv either. The .co.nz goes straight to .co.uk - I was hoping a bit more information about the mappings would be around, but it's a mystery...
