I'm not even too sure myself! I'll grab the Change log from the guys down in Hamilton, and ask that version number question too while I'm at it 

they can call it mr squiggly as long as its a fix :)

My vote is it's HEX numbering, they skipped 1.29 and went to 1.2A

Haha Josh,   optimistic  me thinks   :-)    I sort of agree with the hex idea.  But having said that, that does show how silly someone is;  standard convention is 2A (hex) means 42 (decimal)  Thats an almighty jump haha :-)  I am back to backing Josh's suggestion.  "Awesome"

Have to reboot, but it has lost where it was up to playing.

Issue 2:

  After turning the unit on, it is unresponsive to some buttons for up to a minute.  Previous versions of software said "middleware initializing" during later stages of booting.  Without a  message like that, the user now thinks the unit is broken and would like to return it for a refund.  How to explain to them that "that's how it works:  not responding to button presses is normal".

 Re Issue 2, mine used to do that when I first got it but I then found that low power mode (LPM in standby) was on so I switched it off. The box now responds a lot quicker to the remote after being powered on. It isn't the easiest of things to find but it is in the Settings > Admin menu.

We have a few more releases in the next few days which should fix these

When a programme finishes recording, it sometimes brings up the library page.  This is annoying if you are watching something else at the time.

I think the major showstoppers are being fixed by the software updates.

A few more tweaks should make this a unit worth having.  E.g. keeping video updated when rewinding would be an essential thing to have.  It's hard to know where to rewind to if the video on the screen does not reflect the cursor position in the video file.

This model has promise.  I would not recommend buying it at the moment.  But if the last issues are ironed out, I could see it being excellent value for money and would then recommend it.  Now is the time to properly finish product development on this model, because the lack of decent FreeView Plus recorders in NZ can't last much longer ... can it?

The advertised specs, physical size etc are excellent.  It is exactly what I wanted when I went out and bought it.  What was not advertised, and I did not intend to buy, were the software bugs.

... of which there are many many many.   A few not fixed yet:

 - when you delete a program from the library, the current highlighted position jumps to the top of the screen, not as I would expect, the next row above or below (episode view)

- if it starts recording something while you are playing something back, when you stop viewing and go back to the library, it does not highlight the program you are watching. Where it does go to seems random, sometimes a whole page away.

- we haven't worked out if it is only some channels (eg Choice), but for example we have the recording times configured to start 3 minutes before, and end 10 minutes after, the scheduled time. How come then, when we book a recording 45 minutes long, and it knows this (says so in schedule view) the program recording that results is only 48 minutes?

Actually this example was Mastermind which was on TV1. Another example we've just looked up was Westside on TV3, duration in schedule is 1 hour, but recording is 1:08:55 ???

However other programs also one hour programs, have typical recording duration 1:13:00  as expected ( 3+ 60 + 10 minutes)   Usually it is a couple of seconds short (eg 1:12:57)

It is possible that this is affected by other programs booked at the same time, but taking Westside for example, there was only one other program booked at the time it ended (the missing bit) and it was the one straight after it on same channel.  I guess if we *knew* that was what went on, we could kind of live with it .. but the other tuner was free and our Panasonic would not have done this.

Enough for now, but I promise we could think of more if we had time! Some of these may be fixed in 1.2A for all I know, we are too battle-fatigued with this device to spend exhaustive time testing each and every release. We shouldn't have to.

With all these, indeed, I really want to like this box

Wife was watching the block tonight, Unit has time shift enabled and she paused it to go attened to the children, about 15 mins later (so 15 mins delayed via time shift) she began watching again. when westside started recording at 2028, it dumped her out of her time shift back to live tv so she missed the last 15 mins of the show. this is the angriest ive seen her with respect to the box since we have had it.

it should not do this, if anything the box has 2 tuners and it should start recording westside on the second tuner so as not to interrupt the current time shift as there was nothing else planned to record. or at a minimum it should pop up asking you what you want to do.

while i really do appreciate your work, little things like this are what would put me off recommending this to any one else at this stage.

also when the unit powers off, into standby mode and then powers back on it seems to forget where in the menus it last was and resorts to the default. We use the media tab all the time and it used to when you click the menu button always have this come up, now its goes back to settings, it doesn't do this all the time, maybe about 50% of the time.
