Looking at your list of channels do you really think that will be much less than what you pay now?

The fact is that SKY basic subsidises the premium channels and provides them with revenue to cover overheads. If you go to a channel by channel basis the price will be higher per channel and the type of channel will influence price too. It may get less the more channels you purchase. They will have to get some way of charging overhead costs to you as well.

Then why is everybody complaining that freeview in NZ is so bad?
Rather invest all that money in a decent freeview sports channel.
Something thats in HD.

All those Maori only game shows, documentaries etc must be costing us taxpayers a fortune. Instead of asking licensing fees, or privatizing TV, why not just better use the money thats already being thrown into a channel that only a small amount of people actually watch.

Maori TV actually has good rating figures. It also show cases and gives visitors to New Zealand a taste of our culture given that most Hotels etc receive Maori TV.

Don't know if it would reduce cost much, it would remove a load of chaff from the EPG if one could edit the non subscribed from the EPG

As for me, improve the broadband so that Netflix and/or Hulu consider NZ worthy of "official" attention.

1: Netflix have already stated that it's skyTV that is the problem here not our BB and our low population density

presumably you somehow have intimate knowledge of the way the EPG works because, at face value, removing stuff from the EPG on a per customer basis (i.e. every customer has an individualised custom EPG showing only the specific a la carte channels they subscribe to) seems like something that would be bloody hard, if not impossible.

Agree - as long as there are english subtitles for Maori language shows (which most do).

A better way would be to have duel audio tracks 1 in maori the other in english because if I wanted to read something I'd by the book not watch tv not everyone is a speed reader

Canada wants to force TV providers to sell channels individually instead of in "value add" packs.
That would never happen here.

I still really wish Igloo had become more than a way for Sky to get more revenue out of its less popular channels. I would have loved to be able to get a proper PVR with some decent channels on it. It promised a lot, but has not delivered that well. I still rate it as good Set top box for freeview and the Sky stuff if you want it, but it does not do enough and they are unlikely to push the platform forward much more than it already is.

IMO Freeview could be a whole lot better if the government just stopped funding Maori TV and instead spent that money on channels which the majority of the population would actually watch.

It should be a good channel for the $35mil of tax payers money it gets every year. I'm sure the other FTA channels could do the same if they were given that sort of money..

The Crown being one of the stake holders in Maori TV get good value for their investment.

Pretty simple actually.
You dont have to remove anything on a "per customer" basis.

Send all EPG data to everyone, give the customer the option to select which channels they wish to see/hide.

Tivo, although its EPG is not OTA, already gives its customers this option
