i have a dishtv T1020 with latest firmware, I recently have bout a 2TB HDD external HDD with an external power supply

im have some problems with glitchy pictures, or the picture freezes for 10-20 sec

also am trying to record and have set up the schedule to do so

TV3 6:00pm 3 News
TV1+1 7:00pm One News

but it marks both TV3 @ 6:00pm as well and says theres a schedule conflict and will record at a later time

when i watch it run through my schedule it tries to record TV1, then changes its mind and flicks to TV3 and starts recording

then it doesn't start recording TV+1 at 7:00pm

any help would be appericated

kind regards,
Gordon.

I'm having some unpredictable results on my (same) box as well. It has developed a habit of recording a channel until the usb HD is full, which is a right PITA. I've a suspicion that the crazily named "Wakeup Timer" is a better mechanism for scheduling recordings, so far anyway.
BTW, if your 2TB external is a Seagate, then could be a firmware issue. After running mine without any problem as an external to my HV335T media player, I recently cracked open the case & installed it (internally) into the HV335T. Damned thing then failed to boot. Removed it, re-installed it into its original case & all's well. Did a bit of research, uncovered some hard to follow (for me) stuff about the HDD model, but backed off doing any flashing.

Good luck!

hi

thanks for your reply, will give wake up timer a go..

the picture its seems to get glitchy during fast paced action say rugby the picture will glitch or pause with no audio.. also tends to happen around 6:20pm - 6:40pm on 3 News..

im going to the wellington premier in November of The Hobbit and i need to be able to record the news for coverage for that week..

so am trying to solve the issues asap...

the Seagate is going okay its USB 2.0+ USB 3.0 so there shouldn't be any issues with bandwidth, i've tried an 8 gig stick, 16 gig stick but that isn't enough storage for a weeks worth of recording..

I was told by dishtv that recording to a stick just doesn't work. I tried a 16 gig stick on my t1020 and got glitchy play back. Thay say the data transfer rate is not fast enough with a stick, when i went to an external hard drive things are now fine

am running the seagate 2TB HDD now which is USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 compat with external power supply, should have good bandwidth with it..

i can bookmark the news as a series now but im having the TV3+1 issue where it bookmarks both the 6:00pm and the 7:00pm TV3 instead of the 7:00pm one only..

If you book the tv1 news first then book the tv3 one it should say will record at a later date to avoid conflict. will still show both are booked but won't record the first tv3 one. thats been my experience with other shows that have conflicting times

It should work. It has also solved the problem I was having with TV3's The Nation. TV3 plays the show on a Saturday, (which the EPG-triggered recorder grabs) then repeats it on the Sunday but with a Media Commentary from Brian Edwards & Bill Ralston added as its final segment, leaving the show title unchanged.
Have to say though that I run the box with a usb-powered portable HDD, and have never had the playback problems you describe.

Cheers.

everything seems to go:) i managed to set up a few schedules and used the wakeup timer to record daily at certain times it works a treat, the only issue i have now is the gitchy video.. its connected to an HD ariel on top of the roof..

couple of things i don't know is if my neighbor (i live in a four block housing) is also using that same ariel (if that's possible?) or the wind has blow-en it out of position..

should i do a channel rescan to see if it fixes things?

also I live in Hawkes Bay so everyone's using freeview now (UHF is dead :( ) if that's adding extra load?

many thanks for your help:)

The antenna could very well be shared. Check with your neighbour to ascertain whether he's having the same problem
BTW, you can yourself check your Signal Strength & Signal Quality. While watching just press (i) twice on the remote. My signal quality at the moment is fairly solid on 87%, rising to 90%. My signal strength is much more dynamic, varying fairly violently between 68->80%. I typically get no artifacts with these figures.

See if things get much worse if you record two channels simultaneously, whilst watching a third (either off the disk or live). That should put your box & drive through its paces.

Cheers!

ok, im thinking of calling a shop where they know about the local Hawkes Bay freeview if they have had other people

im running tests on the hdd atm, letting it fill up with recordings etc, found that wake up timer works well when trying to record something that is scheduled at the same time..

theres a shop in town who knows where the freeview signals are coming from in Hawkes bay im thinking of giving them a call too

also found this yesterday:

http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/tvs-dvds/tv-dvd-accessories/television-antennas-aerials/endeavour-enhdi8-ultra-flat-digital-tv-antenna/prod118986.html

Endeavour ENHDI8 Ultra Flat Digital TV Antenna maybe i could use this instead of the roof antenna?
