Hi there

My girlfriend has just moved into an apartment and a new Sony KDL-32EX650 with built in freeview etc at the same time. It tunes Analogue and Digital OK (ie UHF works) but TV1 (& +1), Tv2, 3 (& +1), C4 and Four are all missing. From my readings it seems that this is the opposite problem a lot of people have.

The building manager doesn't seem to know the difference between Freeview and FreeviewHD, so I've not made much progress finding out if anyone has similar issues.

Ideally I'd try another TV or a standalone freeview box, but neither are an option.

Any ideas what might be causing it?

The TV was set to NZ in the initial (and several subsequent) setup, and when I do a manual tune I can set the "channel" there from 21 to 59. I might be misunderstanding what this channel means, but wikipedia has all the high bandwidth channels (ie the ones missing) us below 20. I suspect I might be misunderstanding this, however.

Many thanks

Freeview HD is transmitted on the UHF band which in NZ spans E27 through E62, i.e., 518 to 806 MHz. Typically the three muxes that comprise Freeview HD, i.e, TVNZ (One, 2, U, One+1), MediaWorks (3, FOUR, 3+1, C4, Shopping Channel), Kordia (the rest), would be on RF channels E32, E34 and E36 (depends on the transmitter). These RF channel numbers do not relate to the LCN (logical channel numbers) in any way.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

In my experience when channels are "missing" it means the signal from the aerial is marginal.

Even though all the channels are transmitted at the same strength, everyone has a mux which is "weakest" at their location (for me it's the one that carries TV3, prime etc).

I was going nuts, thinking there was something wrong with my setup, fiddling around with all sorts of stuff until I improved my aerial setup, then the channels magically appeared!

I think she'll have to persuade the manager to get a professional in.

If it's a multi-tenanted apartment block, why not see what the neighbours a re getting, See how theirs are set up. If it's the same for everyone, see if they want to go shares in getting someone in with a new aerial or whatever to get it sorted.

Freeview = DVB-S (Satellite) ie, picked up with dish, also has lower resolution
FreeviewHD = DVB-T (Terrestrial) ie, picked up with antenna, also has higher resolution

Also I don't think DVB-S has AC3 audio, and may have less other features like subtitles etc.

Your first step is finding out if any of the neighbors can get the missing FreeviewHD (not analog) channels.  If they can then the problem is with you.  If not then the problem is with the building.

You need to know how the Freeview (Sat)  or FreeviewHD (Terrestrial) signal is distributed around the Apartment Block before being able to properly diagnose the problem. The building manager should know this.

Or your decoder is kaput.

I have an old Draco stb which can't get one of the Chinese channels while the Zinwell, Samsung and Tivo - all hooked up to the same aerial gets everything.
