Arg, are there any plans afoot to sort the plus 1 problem when recording things on series link (or even just recording single episodes). Or is there a way round it?

The EPG, or at least the one on my T1050 seems to treat the original and timeshifted broadcast as the same thing, even when not recording on series link. When you want to record several things accross the course of the evening it can scupper your plans by filling up the two recording slots. The problem has been exacerbated by the launch of 2+1

I asked DishTV, but got a completely incomprehenisble reply (or am I just being thick):

"HI
The box will always book on the normal channel and then the plus one channel this is because the program is the same, but if you wish to enter in other bookings at a later time it will come up with a message saying it has to make the booking at a alternate time this will not cause issues with recording."

Makes it sound like they ain't doing anything about it.

I have a T1050 and have never had this problem. It shows up booked on both channels but if it records on the main channel it does not then record on the +1 channel. Only time it appears to use the +1 channels is when there are too many things booked for the same time. Having said that if I have a program booked on choice it records the first showing fine then records the next showing but never turns off sometimes I can have 24+hrs on that one program recorded if I haven't seen it and turned it off manually. I suspect that may have something to do with choice though.

The whole EPG thing is a absolute mess and IMO designed by lunatics. The only solution is to record manually, which also prevents the recording stopping early and losing the end.

I'm not so concerned about it recording duplicate programmes, as you're right, it doesn't. It's more that even flagging that the recording is going to happen seems to block recordings later on:

Case it point is say we record Blue Bloods on a series link, it puts the series link on 3+1 as well, then if we are taping something else on TV1 it won't let us tape Outrageous Fortune, which follows straight afterwards, throwing up the 'Too many recordings' error. Do I just need to not use series link? I'm not actually trying to tape clashing programmes, but the box seems to think so.

There's also the issue of old series links not clearing once the show stops broadcasting, but that's easily remedied.

It's all just a bit hokey. It doesn't work as well as the box I was using more than five years ago in the uk. I don't want to whine, but could they not have just adapted a system from abroad than the solution they've plumped for.

If you manually record, do you still get all the metadata that goes with the show, or do you just get a list of timestamped recordings?

I see what you mean now, though can't say that it has shown up as an issue yet for me. Since the TV2+1 has launched I haven't had a single thing say too many programs for this time slot, the +1 channels seem to be taking care of the conflicts.
We record ALL our tv as I'm a farmer and head to bed early so all our tv is watched a day later or more. Some nights we can have 3 or four things booked at the same time and they all seem get recorded some how... well they are there the next night for us to choose from so it all seems to work for me. Maybe I just have a very lucky box?..... though it does have its issue's from time to time just not your one's. LOL
