The wife missed the Thursday X-Factor last week so we powered up the Samsung TV opened the app and the show was not listed!!  I presumed that is was one of those license issues where they can't show some programs on demand - the Mrs was disappointed so I went back to my PC (to look for alternative means) and found the X-Factor is available at the TV3 on demand?!?!  So I checked the iPad, not available.  It "helpfully" provided a list of "shows available to watch on your mobile/tablet".

I do recall some reason a while back where it was decided that the iPad, and maybe other devices, were not secure enough but I can't seem to find that now.

But this is an app, supplied by TV3/Samsung on a TV not a mobile or tablet.  If the TV app is not secure enough either, then what's the point creating and deploying it for a small section of the shows broadcast?

Perhaps I've missed the point somewhere - please enlighten me someone...

I hate flash so I was excited when TV3 launched an iPad compatible version of their full On Demand offering, but they soon withdrew it due to the copyright issues that you alluded to. I don't have Flash installed on any of my devices, so I just don't bother watching anything on demand except for 3News and Campbell Live clips on the 3News app.

In my view they need to tidy it up, or just not bother. The lack of any other response to this thread so far makes me think that others have probably given up also which is a shame because on demand should be the future of television.

To me, on-demand is one of the very few tools that broadcasters have against piracy. Having more devices that content can be legally viewed means fewer reasons to download.

Restricting content between devices just seems counter-intuitive to me.
