We have a DVB-S Disk tv box from dick smiths and its constantly messing up recording.

Recording wierd things we dont set, and not recording things we do, it says series's have ended when they havnt and records the shopping channel or something.

Any way we can fix it (settings, firmware) , or is there a better free sat box that doesnt do this?

Hi
The Terrestrial unit (1050PVR) does the same! Have to keep an eye on it to stop / delete programs that are 1 hour long being recorded for 14 or more hours until the hdd is full!
Also records things you didn't ask for!
The "solution" from DishTV was to do a "factory reset" then re-enter your series to be recorded again. Rinse and repeat if it happens again!!!

Hi

If you can provide more details on your unit then we can isolate some solutions to you, A factory default usually does correct minor issues with the unit however in order for us to detect what the issue is we need

1. Unit Name and Model Number
2. Latest Firmware Version details
3. Region in NZ

Cheers

Alright, looks as though you do not have the latest firmware installed.
The first thing we will try is update your unit to the latest release to see if services improves,

If you are using a Windows PC please download and run the software application here: http://www.dishtv.co.nz/images/stories/Firmware/S7070r_Firmware-v1.2b.exe
Follow the instructions and the provided read me to successfully update your unit.

after the unit has been updated, test the recordings and bookings and see if this has corrected any faults, if not we will investigate further.

Cheers

I  have seen firmware version 1.2b on the Dish TV web site.

However, I did an update via satellite a couple of months ago.

My S7070R decoder shows  software version A3U_1C_012D.

Is there any important difference between 1.2b and 1.2d?

Cheers

I don't think the menu system is all that bad.

Remote Menu button, then select Installation, Software upgrade by OTA (over the air I guess).

May be best to wait for Josh's comments on firmware/software version.

Cheers

These DishTV units do seem to be inherently buggy. I have a T1020 and a T1050 and both randomly record things from time to time. Both have the latest firm ware. The T1050 is the worst at the moment. Since the last update it often won't boot up, just goes into loop trying to. I need to disconnect the power to get it to  reset then it works. But I guess i have gotten used to the issue's and just work around them most of the time.

I updated 3 S7070R back about April/May to the 1.2d.
Sometimes it can take a while to find the firmware using OTA.

Just as an added note, I can't recall if you have to do a factory reset or make sure the correct satellite is selected before doing an OTA software update. The updates came through without any problems when I did it.

On my first receiver I do recall going from 1.25, 1.2b, 1.2c and finally 1.2d.

And further... A note from the user guide... I must have been lucky to catch the OTA updates...

S/W Upgrade via OTA
This option can be used only if an Over The Air software
update is broadcasted via satellite. The software will only
be broadcast for a few weeks when there is a major
update needed. But if Auto OTA Search in the settings
menu is set to on, you won’t need to use this option.

Hey guys.

Sorry about the wait...

Currently I'm getting more information about the change log from the service team, however I'll be able to shear light on OTA Software updates;

OTA updates are usually broadcast during a certain time of the year when there have been significant changes to the Freeview system for example: Prime's move from a Freeview transponder to the SKY Transponder we had sent out scheduled updates through a cycle for some of our units which would have been updated at 4am or manually on the Menu screen. OTA updates do disappear for a period. Sometimes we do have updates scheduled for certain receivers throughout the year and would be advertised on the products landing page or through Freeview Forum.

manual installations are the best way to get the latest update via the USB slot.

I will get back to you regarding the change log
