Our flat this year only has Freeview Satellite (location means we don't have UHF antenna)

Each room has it's own F connector wall outlet leading up to a splitter in the roof which then goes to the dish. The splitter has several inputs, but one is labelled Power, and we've found that we can only tune a set-top box if it's plugged into the lounge wall outlet (assuming this is the one for Power and is powering the LNB)

We'd prefer not to go back up into the roof to swap the cable powering the LNB as we don't have a TV in the lounge, so do plug in 'power injectors' exist where we can just plug it into the lounge outlet and have that powering the LNB, or should we look at getting a splitter that allows power from any input?

Yes at the moment you have a Splitter which only allows Power Pass on 1 port only. This is to Protect the LNB in case you have multiple STB attached to it (and forget turn off the LNB power option in the STB) and is pretty common/standard.

You could replace the Splitter with  a power pass all ports (and in the future blow up the LNB when you forgot you did that) or as you said just swap 2 of the Cables over which would be the easiest way to do it.

I had a quick look around and in theory they should be available but I have not seen in a 240V -> Power the LNB adapter.

You could just buy a real cheap STB and leave it plugged in : http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/tvs/terrestrial-receivers/auction-855016966.htm

You could get an 18vDC power injector and plug it in, however this is a hard voltage to come by unless you build your own power injector. Alternatively you could buy a 14vDC power injector as these are more common and turn the LNB on the dish 90 degrees clockwise. As already suggested you can leave a cheap freeview box plugged into that outlet ( it must be a DVB-S box).

I'm not 100% but something like a  Kingray PSK08 be good enough to run the LNB? Or does it actually need 18V (not 17.5V) to run it?

The 18v / 14v is used for switching the LNB polarity, so the power supply voltages need to be pretty close to these - depends how picky the LNB is.

Hi Lennon, Yes the Kingray PSK08 is good enough to run the LNB, and is something that we use often for situations like the OP and with large head-end units.

I think you'll find that a PSK 08 is 17.5v AC , and not suitable.

They seem to swithc pretty close to 14v. Remember that they allow for a couple of cascaded diode steered splitters as well as cable losses so I would just stick a 15V laptop brick up the cable and see what happens.
