Just in conversation with a chap in the UK - comparing Panasonic DVD Recorders.

Mine's a DMR-XW440 and the comment is, it may/does not receive HiDef because it doesn’t have the DVB-T2 tuner.

The manual says it's a DVB-T tuner and that it's DR recording mode is 'Partial TS'. What's that ?

It certainly looks like Hi Def, but it is really not, perhaps just "close to" ?

UK have DVB-S2 (satellite - much like sky) :)

That has dual DVB-T tuners (terrestrrial/land base) for NZ. Which is HD just fine.

The XW440GZ is freeview certified to boot

Thanks... so it's not T2 but S2 and that's for satellites, and DVB-T is HD. Got it!

There is a DVB-T2 also, But not implemented here.

No. It's not a satellite unit. AFAIK Panasonic don't make satellite recorders. It's terrestrial UHF and it's digital only so must be HD. DVB-T2 is second generation of DVB-T. Likewise satellite units are either DVB-S or DVB-S2.
Just like Telecom had 2g, 3g, 4g.

The only thing DVB T2 here in NZ is the Igloo boxes and some Freeview Built-in TVs as the Igloo broadcast is in DVBT2
