Currently I have a desktop computer with a DVB-S card in it, so coupled with ProgDVB software there is no problem either watching TV on the computer monitor, or recording TV programs to my NAS.
However, I am about to change to an all-in-one set up, so I'll need an external satellite receiver ... again no problem as there are heaps in the market place, my new set up has HDMI input, and I assume that my NAS will suffice as well as any USB storage connection.
But, I've heard that many of these PVR units save TV programs in strange or proprietary formats that require replay to a TV/monitor to be back through the unit itself.
Since my main TV accesses programs/films etc off the NAS (through ethernet and separate media player), I'm concerned that anything recorded using the PVR may be unwatchable/unplayable.
Anyone had experience using a PVR in this fashion?
