Just noticed that TVOne is currently advertising an AC-3 bitstream in addition to their AAC stream. It appears to be a full 5.1 matrix. Anyone else able to check this. Sadly the news in 5.1 isn't exactly exciting.

Any idea if this will be permanent? Even if its stereo will there still be an AC3 stream (i assume so)? This could solve codec issues if so.

Nothing is permanent until closer to the go live.

It is also possible to just turn on AC3 as and when they need it, which I seriously hope they don't decide to implement.

It would be great if they could upscale all audio to Dolby Pro Logic II before transmitting an AC3 stream!

I would be satisfied with just getting it and not playing the waiting game.
I'm saving hard to get my computer a decoder,  not sure what to get, Sat or terra's.

Ok has found them all this time.

Have they changed the frequencies?

I did a search with the settings shown in the ultimate guide - nothing found
then did a search with the frequencies that are tere by default and it found all 14 channels.

Oh the joys of testing. Back to AAC and AC3 on TV One, and no AC3 on TV 2

TV ONE                   (0x04b0) 19:            V 0x00fa A 0x012c (eng) TT 0x03f2 AC3 0x0191 SUB 0x03fc
TV2                      (0x04b1) 19:            V 0x00fb A 0x012d (eng) TT 0x03f2 SUB 0x0401
TVNZ 6                   (0x04b2) 16:            V 0x00fc A 0x012e (eng) TT 0x03f2 SUB 0x0406
TVNZ 7                   (0x04b3) 16:            V 0x00fd A 0x012f (eng) TT 0x03f2 SUB 0x040b
TVNZ SPORT EXTRA         (0x04b4) 16:            V 0x00fe A 0x0130 (eng) TT 0x03f2 SUB 0x0410

Also I dumped an AC3 stream off TV One for a look as follows

ATSC A/52 aka AC-3 aka Dolby Digital stream, 48 kHz,, complete main (CM) 3 front/2 rear, LFE on,, 224 kbit/s

So 5.1 encoded but ony 224 kbit/s

Guess they were playing around with it. But why did they have to do it during E.R?

Because they can.. We have to remember that until the official launch this is all in test and they can play with it as much as they like.
