I'm having problems with the TVNZ OnDemad app. It starts okay, but within a minute or two of playing a given show (any content to be specific), it crashes with a blank screen, and soon after reverts to live TV mode with only audio playing. Only a power-cycle will bring it back to a normal working state. The Samsung TV has the latest firmware (1453.1) installed. I've been in touch with Samsung recently, and during the live chat the TV was completely reset and set up again, but none of the diagnostic steps resolved this issue. Samsung have escalated to Freeview apparently, so I think they are aware of the regression. Anyone else with a recent model Samsung TV experiencing (or able to confirm) similar behaviour? (All other apps including the FreeviewPlus 3Now app work as expected.)

I've noticed (Firmwares 1542 and 1454) for my TV (UA40J6200) have issues with Fanpass and Neon suddenly quitting.

It doesn't happen that often, but with Fanpass and live events, it can cause an outburst of foul language ... :-)

Yes I have a JU6400 which I bought a couple of weeks ago. I experience the same issues. It has the latest firmware. Netflix and 3now work fine, but TVNZ crashes frequently just as described above. Kicks you out of the app then Black screen in live tv mode. Changing channels doesn't wake it up either. Its a real frustration.

Thanks for confirming. I've been in touch with the Freeview team and they acknowledged a problem existed with the TVNZ OnDemad app and mentioned that they thought it had been resolved. However, I'm still experiencing the same problem (regardless of content played). They have mentioned the problem on the freeviewforum site as well...

After further experimentation, I've now established the problem lies with the 'built-in' Freeview Plus app (included as part of the firmware). As we've only just ditched Sky, I hadn't used TV source (for Freeview Satellite) until recently. The standalone TVNZ On Demand app works okay, but the Freeview Plus integrated app is the one that is causing problems. It is probably an older build (slight differences in control menu layout noticed when displayed), so I'll contact Samsung about it. Hopefully, it can be corrected next firmware upgrade.

I've had similar issues using both the TVNZ OnDemand and 3Now Freeview Plus apps on my Panasonic DMR-PWT550GZ. Show plays for 5 minutes or so then just drops out and you get kicked back to live TV.

Seems maybe there's a problem with the 'baked in' Freeview Plus apps.

I also have the 550GZ on another tv, and can confirm exactly the same issue

I have been in contact with Samsung about this, and they acknowledge the problem with the firmware-supplied (Freeview Plus) app, and are working with them to get it corrected, and will then push a firmware update. They've apologised and requested patience until they get it sorted. It's just nice to know that someone is working on the issue.

Have you had anymore feedback from TVNZ?

Also wondering if live pause is available on freeview if I put a flash drive in the smart tv?

I had a reply from Samsung on July 1 acknowledging the problem. They requested patience while they attempt to resolve the issue...

We have read your email regarding the TVNZ OnDemand app in your TV that does not work and we apologize for the inconvenience. Please know that Samsung and content developers have been continuously working hand in hand by doing software tests to rectify the issue. We know this is important for you and we appreciate your patience on this. Please give us a little more time, we know this has been going on for weeks now but we have high hopes that this will be fixed soon

However, I have seen no firmware update available as of yet. I'll see if I can get a further update from them.

From a support chat session I've just had they mention that they've escalated the issue to TVNZ and waiting on them for an update, but also simply stated that whn an update is available we'll get notification for a firmware update. No ETA. I was also given a link to known issues

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/content/tvnz/ondemand/help/known-issues.html

This specific issue doesn't appear to be described there (at time of this post anyway). I hope it will be soon though. I dislike being left hanging as a regular user. Looks like more waiting is needed.... :(
