Hi,

have just discovered this forum after thinking no-one in NZ knew much about FreeView :)

I'm sure this has been asked a million times before,

but basically I've just built up another box for Freeview as i read my old box wouldn't cut it,

specs are:

Intel Pentium DC 2180 (will oc to around 2.8)
2x1GB DDR2-800
8600GT HDMI Out

I've got a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500HD on order from Ingram, but just wanted to confirm
if this will be fine or if there is a better card I could be looking at?

I will be (hopefully) using mediaportal which i currently use for general Media use.

(your nova t 500) should be great! wont be able to receive dvb-s and analogue but will do it just fine! the hvr 2200 is probably the best (said to have the best channel change speed) but does not come with remote control.

also you will need h.264/aac/lamt codecs too

PS - can you tell me if your hdmi out from the 8600gt carries sound in it too? or do you need an extra cable to carry sound?

hey,

the 8600 has a spdif in header that can be used with a mobo/soundcard that has a spdif header (2 pin)
on the board, cable required didn't come with the card so just trying to track one down, otherwise may have
to make one up myself.

re: the HVR2200, it doesn't appear to have support dual DVB-T by the looks of things? is that correct?

ok so you're saying you NEED an EXTRA CABLE for sound on top of the hdmi - or is yours actually a dvi output?

hvr2200 has TWO dvb-t tuners, a dvb-s, an analogue ...

The HVR-2200 actually has 2 DVB-T and 2 Analog TV. not DVB-S

Thanks

yes you do need an extra (internal) cable, and it is an HDMI output.

an 8600GT does not have an Audio Processor, therefore it needs to somehow receive the audio signal
from the motherboard/sound card to output via the HDMI out.

general opinion, what would people suggest, the Nova T 500 HD or the HVR2200?

HV2200 i beleive is PCI-E 1x.
Nova 500 is PCI.
Not sure what the other differences is, both appear to be dual tuner.

hmm... PCI-E x1 would be good as it will leave me with a free PCI Slot still,

has anyone that has had experience with both at all able to confirm what would perform better?
