Well nothing on TV 3 tonight is marked as HD, but on TVNZ we have
 * TV One 8:30 City Homicide
 * TV 2     8:30 Private Practice

Neither of these are maked as Dolby Digital, and still no sign on AC-3 on TV 2.

So how well with TVNZ fair with their first set of HD programs on One & 2?

Is this going to be the start of a daily HD summary ;-)

It would be great to have someone collate this information for those of us to lazy to look!  Perhaps you could give us a quick summary of each show to!

I would LOVE to see Ghost Whisperer in HD, since all previous shows overseas have been shot that way.

And on topic, when I looked at the schedule on the TVNZ website today I couldn't find any indication of any HD programs, is this only indicated on the Freeview EPG?

Good to see that TVNZ is finally broadcasting TV shows in HD, but dissapointing to see the Bourne Identity isn't in HD or 5.1 tonight!

Isn't Womens Murder Club on at 23.35 on TV3 in HD usually? It's usually on at 8:30 but has been bumped by the movie

Yes it is a shame The Bourne Identity isn’t in HD, probably will still look good with Freview HD, I have noticed that some SD programmes look better then what they did on normal Freeview. The Bourne Series is great, does anyone know if they are playing this Bourne Supremacy next week?

Not sure if it's my system or what but I am getting no audio with City Homicide. Playing the recordings with PowerDVD8 shows AC-3 audio (but silence) and with the Popcorn Hour (DTS which is what is usually shown) but silence also. Interesting the previous show and the ads had audio.

[edit] okay somebody was listening - sound started at about 15 minutes into the programme!

Sorry I missed that one. I was using the freeview MHEG-5 EPG to check which shows are in HD, but didn't look past prime time.

Ok those shows have now aired.

I took a look at the video quality and they appeared to be a real step up on the SD broadcast. Sadly TV One didn't appear to have a valid AC-3 stream which was a little odd. Can anyone else confirm it?

See my earlier post. The sound on City Homicide (well the AC-3 track) was silent until about 14 minutes into the programme!

Hi guys!

I can see you keep an eye on the HD shows, and more importantly for me, you are looking for picture quality difference from HD to upscaled SD programmes.

Is it possible to ged poorer picture quality on some HD shows than on the others ???
As far as I understand how the signal is braodcasted, there is no bandwidth difference between HD shows and upscaled SD shows. They are all 720p (on TV1, TV2), no matter the original source.

I noticed it on Monday night: Private Practice was HD, but all the dark patches were full of blocky artifacts, approx 1cm square, moving all around. This happened only on large areas of the same colour or maybe with very slight colour gradient. This is visible if I watch carefuly from 1-1.5m; I generally watch TV from over 4m (I have a 46" LCD Bravia, 768 lines). Private Practice ended and Ghost Whisperer started. This show was not marked as HD. The picture was... well... maybe not what some call "stunning", but definetely much better. Better colours, contrast and more important, no artifacts at all, even when looking from close distance. And you all know, that series has lots of really dark scenes...

I also experience occasional pixelation (same 1cm square blocky artifacts). Specially on HD shows. It did it every 3-4 minutes during Private Practice, but no occurence of this during Ghost Whisperer. Same during Olympics: Some days it did it every 3-4 minutes, in other days all was good for the whole day. Rove is HD, some times is all good, other days it shows the occasional pixelation...

Innitially I got CPU load approx 12-14% on TV3 (aftyer clean install, 3 weeks ago), now I noticed it sits at around 20-24%. I did not install / change anything in the system / codecs. I just added speedfan to run at startup (which may account for 1-2% of the CPU) and played with PowerScheduler to make it work (unsuccesful at this stage).

Did anyone encounter this kind of behaviour?

Sounds good -I was hoping they would explicity identify native HD (versus upscaled) programmes so we don't need to second-guess what we are getting..

Great idea, I wish TV3 would do the same.
