where can i find out if i'm near a tv transmission tower?

Check out www.freeviewnz.tv, to check your coverage. There are maps for parts of the country at the bottom of that page. A red triangle represents a transmission tower.

As eXdee says use the coverage map and it would also help if you said roughly where you are, as some locations require that you use one of several transmitters, which is not always apparent.
