They really have no clue if they think that they can push the data out to any box that will recieve it and then say that tvnz need "permission" to include it in the EPG... Hello, you are sending the EPG out, so what permission is there thats needed?

This is almost as stupid as the crap tvnz are pulling that means that most digital tv watching NZers never get to see the 6 and 7 channel that they are paying for.

It's no different to what's happened in OZ with Tivo.

Although its only 'text'.. all the networks retain intellectual copyright on their TV listings, this includes TVNZ and Sky TV.. and no doubt Canwest.

The differece in Australia was that their EIT based EPG was a disaster anyway. It simply couldn't be used as a reliable EPG for a PVR. Deals had to take place to get this information in one easy to use format and this in part has now lead on to Australia launching their Freeview brand and much improved MHEG5 EPG which is what Tivo actually uses for it's EPG.

Here were now have an MHEG5 based EPG in place already that has all of the information needed. I would love MediaWorks to explain what they belive they can do to stop somebody who launches a Freeview approved box (as the Tivo would presumably be) from accessing the Freeview EPG.

I must admit I would love to see one of these Tivo boxes... I still have a series 1 tivo sitting idle in the wardrobe.. :)
