I have just got a Digistar 811u and have got the freeview side of things all working.  I have just tried playing some DVD .VOB files from a USB hard drive and don't get any audio.

I know the .VOB files are fine because I have burnt DVDs from them previously.

I have tried .AVI files and these play the Audio fine.

Has anyone else tried playing .VOB file on a Digistar?

Hey Box,

Did you ever resolve your problem?  I am having the same challenge.  I don't want to covert my back catalogue to .avi if I do not have to.

No, haven't found a solution... a bit of a pain.

Did you go back to the person who sold you the machine? I sent an email off last night so I hope to have an answer but I am not sure they know the technicalities of the machine.

I read a bit on the internet and it appears that some hardware does not like the audio file that is created . . .not sure if that is the issue. However if it is then it will be easier to convert to avi. It will take me some time (1 hour per movie) but what alternative do we have?

Have you tried playing it with VLC?

No, I hadn't tried going back to the person I bought it off... will give that a try. I have tried playing the .VOB files on the computer using VLC to confirm they are ok. As you say I don't really want to go thru the conversion process either.

Yeah - VLC (one of the best peices of software anywhere) plays them great, no challenges. Just the Digistar box that seems to give me the problems. I will keep you informed if I crack it.

Are you in New Zealand?
Are you posting from a Telecom Mobile Broadband connection?
Are you posting from a corporate LAN?

Good point. I am in Auckland but with servers in the US and I guess when I use my LAN that is what the system is picking up. Thanks for pointing that out.

By the way - I got a response from the guy that sold me the Digistar:

"please try to using different format to play with - cheers"

You have to laugh don't you . . .
