Very strange. Watching The Sentinel on TV3 and get the weak or no signal box come up, then it returned about 2 secs later, and I notice that it's Dolby Digital.  First time ever seen that.

Think it's TV3 mucking around and not anything the TV is doing since I can't select the AAC signal back.

No firmware changes either on my part.

I think that's right, a lot of the HD movies TV3 does come in Dolby :)

I noticed that a while ago while switching channels too and I thought it was pretty sweet at the time

I have the 37" B530, might update my firmware when I get back from holiday too, always good to be upto date

The issue is more complex than that.

Most Samsung TV's won't let you get 5.1 sound via the SPDIF connector. Some earlier Freeview IDTV models did but Samsung then changed the firmware removing the ability to select between AAC and AC3 audio feeds. On the A650 model that Psycik has depending on when you purchased the TV you either have one that does allow this switching or one that doesn't (different firmware versions). It appears some newer Samsung models may have this functionality back again however it's totally random depending on the firmware releases.

Trying to get any information from Samsung or anybody at Radiola in NZ on this is absolutely impossible - I followed this up via multiple channels when I've had two different Samsung TV's here for review and got no answers from anybody.

Around the same time Psycik posted I did some testing and it appeared that AAC audio was randomly dropping out on TV3 off Mt Kaukau. If this was the case the TV was obviously automatically switching to the AC3 feed.

As for upgrading firmware I'd be very careful. Samsung issue no changelogs and if you have a set that does allow AC3 output via SPDIF you could easily lose this this and have no way of going back.

I have an optical cable from my telly to my receiver, and in the "glitch" last night did notice that it was pushing DD5.1 to my receiver. Pity as soon as the program finished that it reverted to HE-AAC with no option to change it.

if you have one that does it, and the update removes it you would have grounds for a refund.
