What have people tried sucessfully?

Looking to feed 2 STBs, and 2 PC based tuners at this stage, but if an 8 port is not much more than would probably spring for that too.

Would also like to mix in the UHF off air which I know some have an input for.

Looking for local sources prefereably, and not too much.

Are you looking for a multiswitch that plugs into the mains, or would one that sucks power from the receivers be okay? Also, how many satellites do you want access to, and do you need both polarities?

My project for the last 6 months or so has been to try and get UHF plus Intelsat 5 plus both polarities from Optus D1 and D2 to 5 or 6 tuners using a combination of dual output LNBs and multiswitches. Initially I found that my options were *very* limited in both the LNB and multiswitch departments. In fact at first I couldn't find any suitable LNBs (even though I think Sky installers use and/or used to use them for commercial installs), and the only decent range of multiswitches I found (from Satmax) were prohibitively expensive (http://satmax.co.nz/MultiSw.htm - see the prices at the bottom of the page!).

I eventually managed to get a good quality powered 9x8 multiswitch off Ebay for NZD$150, which I thought was a real bargain. A new dual output LNB (http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/noise-dual-output-10750mhz-band-p-40.html) became available in the last couple of months too so I bought one of them to try. My project is still ongoing at this point - I've had trouble with my computer satellite tuners...

Anyhow, the few dual output LNBs I've seen seem to go for around $70-80 (see
Freeviewshop, which has 2). Non-powered 3x4 multiswitches like this are relatively common and seem to go for a comparitively reasonable $40-50. A new powered multiswitch (http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/input-output-satellite-multiswitch-p-413.html) has also become available recently...

I recommend talking to kiwisat and cyril7. Both have given good advice and been very helpful to me.

Argh, that freeviewshop site still has the old oscommerce stuff on it that pops a window that you have to resize to see the images. Was wondering why nothing was getting larger.

The unpowered 3x4 switch would do for now, and I guess I can cascade another one off 2 of the outlets when I finally get around to getting more tuners. The LNB is quite a bit more than I was hoping to spend. I am thinking I could put one of the 90's I have here up for the other polarity off D1, since I would have to run another cable I could just put the second dish by the wiring closet where the switch will be going.

I have a toriodal dish in the shed still that I keep meaning to get installed, but for now cant be bothered. Will replace the switch if ever that happens. From what I have seen all I would get is ethnic or xtian so its staying put for now.
