hi folks

I have a JC Matthew DVR-320T freeview recorder and I am having intermittent problems with recording - on a number of occasions the unit has just not recorded the programmes I have set - namely '24' on c4 on more than one occasion, and last night I had set the unit to record 'The pacific' on TNNZ one and it just did not start! Both of these programmes have been set to series record.

Any idea what is wrong here? Is there a problem with the unit itself, or is it something to do with the EPG and the fact that I have set the programmes to record the series? I have a good reception using the UHF aerial, and the EPG always loads ok. I have other programmes set to series record and they work fine.

Cheers

B

i had the same problem last night with the pacific. i had it set to one off record and it didn't start, luckly they repeat it on sunday night so i'll catch it then. i also have the jcmatthews dvr-320t.
if someone with another brand pvr who has the pacific set to record could let us know if they had any issues with it recording that'd be awesome.

I contacted JC Matthew and they have not heard of this happening before - suggested I might be recording too many things at once which I wasn't, or that my hard drive was full which it isn't either. Only other suggestion was to reset the defaults but I cannot imagine that will make any difference.

It's almost like the EPG changed somewhere along the line and the code that designates what is recorded had changed. But surely when you set a recording from the EPG all it does is set a time and date for that recording? Or does it update automatically if the EPG changes?

I would guess something wrong in the epg.  It should update automatically rather than just setting a date/time recording.  It recorded fine on my Tivo, but then they have there own epg.

bazzer: Does it generally work well?

yeah, they work really well. i've had mine for about 6 months and this is only the second time i've had an issue with it not recording something. the first time it recorded tv1 instead of tv2 for some reason, started and finished at the correct times though ;). i've recorded 100's of programmes in that time so can live with 2 not recording.
i've just picked one up for my mother off one-day, if i wasn't happy with mine i wouldn't get one for her.

well on the other hand, I have had mine for about a month, and it has failed to record programmes on 4 occassions already, which I don't think is very good really. But then again it could be a problem with the EPG and not the unit itself.......

Sweet. I just picked one up too. At that price, it has got to be worth it.

what programmes have you had an issue with? just 24? if that's the case i'll set mine up to record it and see if it works. like i said earlier i've recorded 100's (probably about 10-15 programmes a week for 6 months as i don't tend to watch tv live much anymore) and only had 2 instances when it hasn't recorded.

I take it it doesn't do HD over component?

24 on three occassions using the series record (yeah I know 24 kinds sucks now but once you are half way through you have to carry on!), and the pacific on monday. Plus when I first got the unit I set it to record lost and that didn't work either, but has always worked since.

Problem is that it seems quite erratic, so one week it might work, and the next it won't. But try 24 out and see if it works....

nothing wrong with 24, it's one of my favourite programmes and one of the few that i watch live every week.
i'll set up 24 to record when i get home tonight and let you know how i go.
i'm guessing it's an issue with how freeview code each programme on the epg rather than a box fault. problem is you're relying on someone to enter the correct code for each programme to tell your box to start/stop recording at a set time/date on a particular channel. in saying that, what do i know :) i'm sure if what i'm saying is wrong someone on here can correct me.

well 24 was one of my faves too, but this current series is way too predictable and has just lost that bit of magic that all previous seasons had.

I'm with you on thinking that it's something to do with the coding of the EPG, have emailed freeview to see what they think - I'll update if I get an answer!

Cheers
