Something that may be of interest to people is an RFI that appeared on GETS last night for expansion of the DVB-T network.

Funding for this was announced by the Government in December 2009 and while not yet finalised the RFI says that "the rollout is to be completed as soon as possible, preferably by August 2011"

The wheels are certainly now in motion!

DVB-T - well wouldnt be looking here if I didnt know what that was!

So there is 'some' plan for an increased rollout of DVB-T? Yes - thats interesting - first time *any* expansion has been mooted that I have heard of.

The expansion plans are nothing new. When the DVB-T rollout was first planned it was designed to cover 87% of the population. This was then split into two states, with stage one being a 75% population coverage rollout and the remaining 12% population coverage rolled out at a later date. This second stage was always planned, it was simply a matter of timing.

The transmitter sites and frequency bandplans already exist for this rollout, it simply depended on Government funding to occur for the hardware and installation. This funding was announced in December and it seems work has now commenced on the rollout.
