Hey all

My mates have moved back to nz from australia and they have shipped their tv home, can you firmware upgrade the inbuilt tuner so it supports freeview? its a Sony.

Highly unlikely.

AU not only uses different frequencies and frequency stepping it also uses a different technology (MPEG2 vs H.264/MPEG4).

Some new devices in Australia that are Freeview certified will work as they support H.264 however the firmware would be different.

Best option is to go and buy a cheap Freeview STB or PVR.

Do the Sony's ask you during initial setup which country you are in? The Samsung's do, and I assume by which country you choose, it sets up the correct freeview parameters.
