Hi there

I have just joined Geekzone and hope someone can help me. I purchased a MagicSat MS900 Freeview Satellite Reeciever. After looking on here and trying different options I keep losing my NZ Freeview channels, especially the TVNZ Channels such as TV One / TV2/ TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7, which frequently drop out. The TV3 / TV3 Plus 1 / C4  Prime TV and  Stratos channels seem to be prtetty reliable and stay in tune wioth out pixilating or showing "Poor or no Signal".

On the weekend, I  finally managed to get ALL NZ Freeview Channels working perfectly and stying in tune with no problems. Then this morning (Monday) I've lost all channels completely again.

I tried a number of things (as I began to think I had a faulty receiver (with a faulty tuner) But this doesn't seem to be the case now after trying a few simple tests with other receivers.

First I checked the satellite dish signal - without having a satellite meter on-hand - not being a technician.

I borrowed my neighbour's MySky Decoder and set it up. The MySky receiver showed that my satellite signal was strong. (My Sky receiver has four tuners, compared to my Freeview receiver only having ONE tuner built into it) The MySky receiver worked pefectly of course)

Then, a friend lent me another new (straight out of the box) different brand Freeview satellite receiver. This different Freeview receiver also was only able to tune in all NZ Freeview channels except the TVNZ channels. All TVNZ channels showed "No signal" So from that I gathered my Freeview Receiver wasn't faulty.

I believe now that the problem is actually due to my Sky TV satellite dish having a dual LNB fitted to it when actually it needs to have a single LNB fitted.

Is there anyone on here that is "Freeview technically minded" that can confirm that this is highly likely my problem? and I need to get a single LNB fitted to the sky dish?

Can't wait to hear from someone out there.

Cheers

Paul L

What's interesting is that the channels you are having problems with (1,2,6,7) are on TP 12483H (along with Maori TV), while the ones you say work better 3, 3+1, 4, Prime, Stratos) are on TP 12456H (along with a few others). That has to be a clue, but I'm not sure where it leads.

Without a proper meter which shows the BER you cant align the dishes.

The tone meters are at best going to get you vaugely ontarget, but are no good to do the last bit.

With the Kordia transponder working fine and the TVNZ transponder playing up tells me your LNBF needs polarising, without a decent meter you could try twisting it very slightly one way if that makes it worse try the other way. If this doesnt work the lnbf is faulty as all the SKY dual lnbs  are starting to fail. so it might pay to go to a single 11300 if this is the case ( hope this helps )
