Hi,
I've recently set up Freeview HD and it's fine for the TVNZ and MediaWorks channels, but I'm having some pixelisation and dropped frames etc with the Kordia mux.
I'm in Whakatane and am about 120 km from the nearest transmitter (Te Aroha). There's also a tree in the way. At the moment I have a masthead amplifier set up, with the gain set to maximum. A friend suggested that too much gain may be causing it to over-amplify the noise. Is there likely to be any truth to that?
If I could possibly benefit by turning down the gain, can anyone recommend any software that shows signal quality? I've tried the command-line app ScanChannelsBDA but I can't put much faith in it; the flawless TVNZ mux was reported as having 43% average quality whereas the problematic Kordia mux was reported at 68%. Can anyone suggest something more reliable? My tuner is an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid, which appears to be a rebranded Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900.
I should also point out that my standalone Sony TV is having the Kordia problems too, so it's not something specific to my USB tuner.
Any advice? :)
