I just moved into a new house today in Sunnyhills, East Auckland. I have pre-bought a UHF aerial to install this week as the place only has a VHF and sky dish. After a long wet day of moving my life, I decided to tune my tv into the analogue stations. But low and behold, I was receiving Freeview|HD loud and clear!? What the heck? I still want to run cables to the rooms, but now I dunno what to do with the UHF. Why am I get signal?

If you're in a strong signal area a VHF aerial will still pick up signals.

Or the aerial could be a VHF/UHF combined one. A photo would confirm this.

Yep, pretty much what the first poster said.
I put up with crap analogue for a week in our flat then one day hit the digital button and all channels came through loud and clear on freeview.
Pity the Arial had blown down on the roof and didnt function in wind or rain, but if it was clear, the old VHF/whatever aerial on the roof was ok.
Just keep the aerial if you have the space, you can always use it later on if needed.
