I am a electricain and i have installed a freeveiw decoder for a client she requested one that can take a sky card as it is at her batch and she only wants to take her card down with her.

Freeveiw is working fine, but it will not read the mysky card, I have been told that it will only take 2 types of sky cards. Her card must not be one of thoses types.

She rang sky to get them to send another card out and they will not because they dont support people using decoders other than there own.

Can anyone give me any tips to get around this, i was thinking of getting her to ring sky and saying her current card has an intimitant fault in it and will not read the card sometimes. even if they then replace the card will it work with the new one????

Only proven way is to order MySkyHDi.

What sort of STB is it? Does it actually do NDS?

Not every Freeview STB with decode Sky even with a card that will allow it to do so. What STB make and model did you install.

Yes some STB's will decode Sky TV ,however you do need the correct card and a STB which will read the card.

The Ferguson and some ultra plus models will if you have a 00 card

As above, you need to ensure your hardware can actually do the trick you're after in the first place. It's not enough to just have a slot you can wedge a SKY card into....

Sky offer solutions for batch type situations, you just have to pay for it. (kinda obvious that pay and Sky are in the same sentence).

Yes, only some cards will work in other suitable boxes and no, Sky will not willingly swap these over for you for the reasons you have stated. It's a gamble, there is no other way to do this other than ordering MySky as mentioned above.

You can contact Sky and say you've lost your card and they will provide another one. If you can find your 'lost' card then they will refund the charge for the new one too on it's return. You know, little kids sometimes take it out and hide it for instance....

thanks for that i dont have the make and modle handy will get it 2morrow,

I was told buy the supplier that it will deffinatly read sky cards.

so if i say i 'lost the card' and they send out a new one will it work?

She has a mysky box at her house and the freeview decoder is at her batch hence why she only wonts to take her sky card down to save set of the decoder each time ect.

As above, only if the replacement card is suitable, and there is not guarantees on this.

The STB has the ability to read a 0000 card or it does not, simple ,i know of only a few brands that can.
the ferguson ,and some ultra plus models . There are one or two others but i have not tested this feature out in them.

No one is going to put in writing that his STB will decode Sky let alone garrentee this feature when only one version of card will work.
