There is a major problem with terrestrial freeview at the moment.

I thought my Homecast HT9200 was toast, it kept rebooting after 10 seconds of watching, but customer support said that freeview is having major problems.

I'm in Auckland, not sure about elsewhere.

Totally stupid that a transmission signal can make my PVR go into a reboot loop.

Homecast and Freeview are aware of this rebooting issue, and it is been investigated, but at this stage no remedy is available.

We are hoping we will have this rectified soon.

Thanks for the reply. I think I overreacted a bit there, not quite a "meltdown".

I guess I will have to watch analogue TV until it is fixed.

NOOOOOOOOOO  meltdown is a very good description!

I was over at my Mums today, conned her into buying a myfreeview ox, took it home plugged it in doing funny things, we ended up taking it back to the shop and exchanging it as we thought it had a faulty powersupply or smething.

The next one did the same so left itwith her for my husband to go around and fiddle with and to see maybe it was a signal problem!

Get home and mine is doing the same thing ARGH!

We don't have any other channels tuned in.... atleast I can watch things from my play list with no problem!

Atleast once its fixed Mum can watch hers alright then huh!

Happening in Wellington too. I bought my Homecast last weekend. How often does something like this happen? Looks like my record list has been wiped but still have my playlist intact. Rebooting every 10 seconds or so.

Sorry, is there no more info? I mean, can somebody please explain why my Homecast unit has been crippled overnight?

From what I have heard there has been a change in the way the Freeview signal is transmitted and this is affecting the Homecast. Freeview and the distributor are working on a fix for the issue.

@scottjpalmer: Can you share any more than that? All I have noticed is that TVNZ have changed the service type descriptors on their DVB-T channels from "digital television" (type 1) to "advanced codec HD television" (type 25) for TV One and TV 2, and "advanced codec SD television" (type 22) for TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7. That shouldn't cause an issue like this...

This has never happened to me before and we have had ours for a year or more.  Imagine what my Mum thought having taken it home for her first day!

I cannot understand why any new changes were not tested fully before releasing! And grumpy its still happening this morning, although I like to think some techo's somewhere have been beavering through the night to get it fixed, but who knows.

More information on the DTVS forum here:

Playing the blame game, I think this is Freeview's fault. They certified The Homecast HT9200. Surely before they roll out any changes they would at least test their certified hardware?

Us too.  Thought the machine was about to die yesterday.  Would love an update in the situation soon.  Starting to worry that this won't be a quick fix (probably makes me a TV addict, but hey, I record what I record to watch when the kids aren't around).

Annoying when you do the right thing by buying the approved product.  Having had it for over a year we probably couldn't return it anyway, plus it's not as if the machine is actually faulty.

Check out lots of the past threads here about the Consumer Guarantees Act.  You totally could if the machine itself actually stopped working properly.

And you are all totally right, this is an actual freeview approved unit so changes that break things are not acceptable.  Bit like the recent TV1 recordings having a different audio stream that 'broke' the Zinwell units.

Yay, it's back.  Thanks to all involved in the repair.
