Has anyone had any experience with either of these aerials? The smaller one claims to have equivalent performance to a 90 plus element, so its preferable because its smaller (and cheaper).

Does anyone know if this true?

Any info on aerial performance would be good, also things like susceptibility to corrosion would also be great if you know.

Hi, both are essentially quoting the same gain, 16.5 for the first and 15-19 for the latter, 2dB is neither here nor there, and in reality, probably would not really have that much gain, and if it did only over the lower part of the band currently rarely used.

I have dealt with both these antennas, neither I normally deal in, of the two the former is much better built and will last in coastal conditions much longer.

Guess the question is how much gain do you really need. Unless you are on the extreme fringe 13-15dB antennas are all thats required in normal coverage areas.

The antenna I normally deal in is more proportioned like the former, the 2nd one is quite combersome and mechanically no where as stable as the first.

Below is the antenna I normally install.

If it were me go for the first one, although the question asked is where are you in relation to the transmitter, what is the expected signal strength at your locaiton.
