this has probably been answered before but for some reason the search is not working on here.

I would love to know if PlayTV is still being sold in NZ and supported.

Or have not enough parties got on board and it has been canned here.

To be clear, it works on all channels in NZ, picture wise.

All channels use MPEG-4 compression on terrestrial/UHF/Freeview HD.
PlayTV can decode and play audio for all NZ channels.

The EPG, the program guide where you book programs to record etc, only works on some channels, if you have the internet connected.  It works on all channels except for Prime TV and Maori TV.  Someone will correct me if this is wrong.

Highly recommend you check out the last few pages of this thread I started years ago:

TV3 and FOUR have still not come to the party with their full EPG listings over the internet based tvtv listings for PlayTV. Therefore, TV3 and FOUR also do not have full EPG listings, only the limited now and next info that is available from the broadcast info.

Politics aye? ;-)

Thanks for the update.
Realise now I was thinking of TIVO, so PlayTV is even worse.

You can make manual recordings though, so you don't fully need the EPG.  It fills a niche now, in that if you have a PS3 you can add freeview very easily.

I personally wouldn't recommend it if you're intending this to be your one and only PVR/freeview box.  You pick up series record with the official freeview PVR's and you can record 2 different channels at the same time, (very common during prime time), which you can't do with PlayTV.
