I'm a kiwi living on the gold coast and i got a NZ freeview box which I setup in NZ before I left, Just a noob wanting to know if I can receive NZ signal on a normal foxtel/austar dish, getting no signals from any satellites. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Unfortunately, there is no way to pick up Freeview NZ in Australia. The satellite beam over NZ is too narrow to spill over there. If you just want to watch one news, they put it up on Intelsat 5 daily at the moment. You'll need a larger c-band dish for this though.

Formally you'd need to check the coverage map for the Optus D1 beam that carries freeview. This will then tell you the signal strength EIRP (if any) in your location, which then gives you some idea of the dish size required to harvest enough of that signal.
