amanzi: Owning your own domain name is the best thing you can do for email. It gives you full portability for as long as you keep your domain renewed. No more dependence on any one provider, and no more having to send out "change of email address" emails.
Aaroona: Hey sbiddle, could you please answer my question above? Very interested.
My Exchange provider can crawled to snail-mail tonight, I'm lucky to get 10kb/s transfer rate, sending OR receiving.

Yeah, i know, but I dont really have that problem now. I use my @clear.net.nz address, and have had the exchange provider change the FROM address to my @clear.net.nz address (which might I add, is a life long address)
But I see your point, I just see it as another cost, thats all.
Am looking into it now though.. Have no idea what I should use as a domain name haha.

Getting most Exchange providers to "spoof" an outbound header would be a mission. In all honesty I just don't understand why people use ISP addresses.

Ahh okay, yeah.
It was more or less just a fall back for me, more than anything. So if I decide later on I dont want to use exchange, I can just cancel exchange without issue of changing the address.

freitasm: Why bother with an Exchange then if your email is still on your ISP? Surely when someone replies to you it won't go to your Exchange inbox, but to your ISP?
Or are you thinking of doing a POP from the ISP mail into Exchange? Most providers don't do it.
Go with your own domain. It costs a lot less than your iPhone and can be yours for a longer time.
