I would love to use the microsoft online exchange service that they have avaliable, but I cant seem to find a way to get 1 licence.

I could only find a way of getting 5 or more..

Is there any suggestions as to where I could go, to only have account, and have it pretty cheap? (atm, my current provider is charging US$5.. which is VERY cheap) but with that, comes lack of performance.

So I want something that is is the middle, both relatively good performance, and good pricing.

You can only buy minimum of 5 licenes. It's a business product and not really targetted at individuals.

I pay US$8.95 per month for Sherweb and have had no issues at all with them in ~3 years.

The service is very good - I used to host my own Exchange, tried Google Apps Premiere - which is cheaper than Microsoft BPOS, but with cheap comes crap support.

But as sbiddle says, it's a small/medium business offering, so they start at five licenses... Nothing much can be done.

Okay, I get that.

but I also wanted to know if anyone had any other suggestions for another company which offers exchange for us individuals who want it too, just without charging the world?

Also, thanks sbiddle for that, I am looking into them now.
What is the performance like?
Because quite often, I get 4mb files sent to me, and it can be quite the b.... waiting for it to download.

Max speed I've ever gotten from my host is 150kb, and since then, it's gone down hill, and only on a good night should I get 100kb/s.

My Exchange provider can crawled to snail-mail tonight, I'm lucky to get 10kb/s transfer rate, sending OR receiving.

Been using this guy's service for 1 year. Downtime is really rare and max 10 mins for maintainenc once every 4 months. Back then whatever you donated would get you a 1GB storage on exchange 2007 account, 100mb attachment limit, outlook support and push e-mail and your own personal FROM e-mail addy to choose from when you send e-mails.. I paid $5 for life for all of that.

From the looks of it, it's now $24 donation for life service for all of the above. $24 for life is pretty good and his servers are great. Majority of xda-developers.com users are registered on his service for push-email service on windows mobile phone.

Do whatever you want to do man.

A: It's USD.

For that price though, I have found another provider who looks a bit better, and has Exchange 2010.

Q: Hang on, is that $24 a once off you mean? Or $24 a month?
A: Just found out. Still curious about the currency though.

And in regards to the performance, how is that?

RIght now, i'm lucky if I can get any traffic speed higher than 10kb/s to my provider. Used to be >150

Transfer rate for attachments downloads using OWA is between 20KB/s ~ 30KB/s. Maybe even more but I am typing this message and downloaded the 775KB attachment from OWA using RDP since Nigerian and Indian IP's are banned from replying in geekzone. I am overseas for few days.

Most of my attachments are under 1Mb in size so not a big deal for me.

Do whatever you want to do man.

oh okay, I was hoping for a little bit better than that (speed) to be honest, but either way, that is still WAY better than my current situation.

I will keep that provider on a list here, maybe as a second choice. Cheers.

A couple of months ago I signed on for BPOS trial and it was great. Truly Hosted Exchange to its true beauty.

My 30 days trial was up and MS Singapore called me to see how was the trial and was very keen to sign me on. They even arranged a Gold-partner (based in Auckland) to contact me to cater to my need.

A few days later I got the call from Mike Stroud of Kinetics (http://www.kinetics.co.nz), and in MS's record, I requested that I'd be interested if there's possiblity to just obtaining 3 users license. Anyhow I chatted with Mike and they're prepared to sign me on even if for 3 licenses.

I'd recommend getting on BPOS trial at least.

Internet is my backyard...

@aaroona - do you mind if I ask why you're specifically looking for hosted Exchange? Have you considered Google Apps. (note - I'm not saying that one is better than the other, just wondering what your reasons are.)

@chiefie - did Kinetics offer to get you signed up with 3 accounts on BPOS, or do they have another hosted Exchange service they provide?

Specially looking at Exchange because:

1. I don't like IMAP
2. POP doesn't do what I need (I have/use >6 devices/laptops)
3. I want Contacts Mail and Calendar sync
4. I dont like installing additional software to make something work. Exchange seamlessly intergrates with Mail and Outlook (I don't want to use Web applications)

If you sign up for Google Apps Premiere you get Google Sync Mobile and it does mail, calendar and contacts, using the Activesync protocol.

This means any device using Activesync can sync to Google Apps. I tested with Windows Mobile and Symbian.

It was however buggy when I tested. Attachments wouldn't download, setting to download the last (x) weeks worked now and then, and Google support is non-existent even to paying customers.
