TL;DR, Microsoft have decided that end users should be able to buy whatever addon Power platform software they want for 365 without their IT departments permission or ability to block it.

 

The uservote requesting the ability to block this feature has hit over 3k votes in less than a week, currently putting it as the 6th most requested feature for Office 365 Admin... Considering that all the other requests with more votes are several years old you'd like to think they will get the message.

I'm not currently seeing this as a big deal.  

 

- Only specific limited apps can be purchased (though this might be the thin end of the wedge)

 

- Data is kept within the existing 365 landscape with its associated security policies

 

- Buyers are not going to use their personal credit card

 

- Buyers using their company credit card have to justify the expense to their manager.

 

 

 

Shadow IT has always been a thing that IT Departments have had to 'manage', and they should be the first to acknowledge that sometimes they are slow-moving (for policy or budget or time reasons).  I expect some great things have come out of Shadow IT that get rolled out companywide 'once the IT guys get on board'
