I've almost completed a degree majoring in Information Systems and am interested in becoming a web developer. The courses I've taken at university focus much more on the theoretical side of things and I feel my practical knowledge is seriously lacking. I have a decent understanding of web development but not enough practical/programming knowledge to secure a job. I'd like to up-skill in key areas such as HTML, CSS, javascript, ASP.Net, C#, SQL etc. to gain a well rounded understanding of the field.

I was wondering if someone could help me with ideas on how best to go about this.

I've considered enrolling somewhere like Electec College who offer a Diploma in Web Development and Design however this costs a considerable amount and would mean yet another year of study.

I've also thought about doing an online certification (as these seem to be much quicker and cheaper) but there are so many courses out there and I'm unsure which (if any) potential employers will value.

Does anyone have any suggestions about well recognized certifications? Is getting a diploma in web development really worth the time and money? Does anyone have any ideas of other ways to go about getting my foot in the door of Web Development?

Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :)

I know you're new around here. But the first tip is this: post in the correct sub forum to get better replies.

I have moved your post to the correct place.
