I'm not really aware of any DCs in Takapuna, let alone ones that'll give you access.

You'll mostly only find lower-tier DCs give you unsupervised 24/7 access.

All we really need is a big pipe by which to upload around 500GB of data to the USA, but it will be spread out over the month. ADSL isn't an option as it's too slow, VDSL isn't an option as it's not available and fibre isn't an option as it's too expensive.

The Orcon DC is just down the road from Takapuna (its in Northcote).

Not walking distance, but close.

Are you sending the data to a server hosted in a datacenter? If so, which one? Or is it to an office/residential connection?

Orcon is pretty close in Northcote. There is a kitchen there so you can sit and have a coffee but I'm pretty sure you need half rack or above for access. Maybe you can talk to them and see what the story is and if they can organize. Have you perhaps tried local businesses in the area where you can just use their net for a bit?

Hmm with the frequency of required access, we really need something close by. The only reason I was thinking of DC was upload speed and easy access.

I don't think a datacentre is the place to go for that. Surely there isn't a business around with fast internet you could pay for access? internet cafe maybe?

Will it be a continuous upload or could you get away with moving it in chunks with a USB drive?

Also is the data still to be created, or is the data just sitting there in bulk, and is the data compressible?

Could try get a backup service in the states which uses say Commvault or EMC Avamar, both can do client side dedupe and compression, so in effect the actual upload could be perhaps 50x less than what you have on disk, making ADSL fit for the job?

Nope, it's Jpegs, in 8GB lots likely done 3 days a week. When they ramp up it will be 30GB on 3 days a week.

If you get stuck and need something in the short term you can courier them to me and I can upload on 100mbps from our office. Do this for a number of clients already.

You'd be better of getting VDSL or UFB at your office and uploading from there. We push 1MB/s upload through our VDSL line so can do 8GB in ~2.5 hours.

There's no DC's in takapuna business district as space is more expensive. As stated above there's Orcon's DC on the corner of Akoranga Drive/Northcote Rd, some in Albany (Maxnet) and ones in the CBD (Kingston St)/Skytower
