Hey guys,
we are just about to undertake a project involving big data and HPC (high performance computing). We will probably need a platform to handle the computational requirements and storage so I was looking at Hadoop and its various offshoots.
In any case on eof the considerations I am looking at is whether to use GPUs for doing the calculations. They are mega fast compared to CPUs but have limited instruction sets it seems. There are some technologies such as CUDA from Nvidia which seem to make this easier (ie use C etc.) but I came across this:

It would probably be easier to program with considering its x86 but looks expensive.
Anyone into the whole HPC scene. Cough bitcoiners?? cough.
