What is the latest thinking on a local backup for the likes of Google Apps? .. in particular, for multiple users and multiple domains

An earlier suggestion I see on Geekzone is GMVault

How about Larch?

I need a Windows run as a service solution.

There are services that you can subscribe to to have Google Apps backups. See: https://www.backupify.com/ for one such service.

Not sure what Windows RDP/Citrix has to do with the Google Apps thing. Why do you need Windows as a service for that?

to clarify .. I want a backup solution that sits on a Windows box and runs as a service (ie doesn't require a logon session)

But you can have the backup for Google Apps going on in the cloud, no need to do anything local. And you can download backups from time to time if you want to have local backups as well.

I found a great open source utility for automatically backing up Google Apps email data .. http://gmvault.org

But has anyone got any suggestions for a local backup of email data for a Microsoft Office 365 account?

Export to a PST file regularly?

Microsoft do have an Outlook backup program but don't think that supports anything past Outlook 2007.
It prompts you to do a backup every time you close Outlook from memory.
