Hi.

Conversing with our distributor they have said to me that if I want 4 users on Office 365, each with access to Office on the local PC and also access to the terminal server, with MS Hosted Exchange, the configuration I would be this:

Either

1) Office Pro Plus OLP with SA since you can't run an older version on the server than on the workstations.

or

2) Open Value Office Plus for $600 a year

This is because click to run office doesn't install or run in TS. Essentially this is a $600 a year media kit!

THEN something like Office 365 Mid Sized x 4.

I am finding this a very hard sell to a customer who can't understanding needing to spend $600 a year on top of his 4 licenses.

Have I been informed correctly? Why would MS Not include Media download as part of a Office 365 Subscription if rights for TS are included?

I was also told you MUST run the latest version of office applications, and you can't exercise downgrade rights.

Really hoping I have been mis-informed.

No, you are unfortunately right int hat to get Office365 on a Remote Desktop server you currently need to buy a Volume License copy of Office to install on the RDS.

AFAIK you only need to buy one copy once, and I wouldn't go with SA.  It's my expectation that the next version of Office will sort out the RDS licensing issue so SA should not be necessary.  One $600ish purchase.  Frustrating that this is required, but that's the official MS workaround as Google should confirm.

Sorry, you are right.  I was thinking 'Office Standard' pricing.  This may be a perfectly acceptable solution if they only need the basic Office apps on the RDS.

Out of interest, what is the TS for and why not run Office 365 on the desktops?
