This will be an easy one for somebody.

I have a remote site (PNG) with a couple Intel NUCs that need re-imaging. I have Clonezilla server taking care of this and it has all worked in testing. The issue is that the site is on a crappy satellite uplink and with nearly 100 users there, the bandwidth is very poor. The image is onsite so no probs there, but my connection (RDP to Amazon cloud server, then rdp from there to the site is making the imaging process difficult from a management standpoint. What I want is to have the 2 PC's set to LAN boot and just left like that so I can fire everything up in the middle of the night when nobodies around. Anyway the question is, will they just sit there ticking over looking for DHCP until they find the imaging server or will they timeout?

Cheers

PXE will listen for the option set in the DHCP request broadcast responce.

If it can't find one, or get a valid responce. It'll time out and boot next set device normally. (unless there is no OS present of course)

So server has to have ability and be configured to serve initial DHCP request, send responce, but wait for manual keypress unless pre-set PXE image defined or allocated for the requesting MAC/PC to boot the PE, but if not the time to - boot HDD

At least.. thats how it use to be :)
