Hi there

I am looking at getting a NZ based Windows VPS, the chief purpose is to give me a Windows machine that I can remote into from anywhere in the world, and do some basic work - mostly browser based. For a couple of reasons, I need it to have an NZ-based IP address.

However, when I compare the prices of NZ VPS options to their US-based equivalents, the NZ prices seem ridiculously high by comparison.

Are there any NZ-based VPS providers who don't charge the earth for their service?

Thank you

Brett

Contact ADCL.co.nz

I have a VPS with them at what I think is an excellent rate. It was arranged by a third party so mine may not be at standard pricing. Service levels and support over the last 3 years have been superb.

You can get a Sydney based Amazon windows instance for $14 - $36 per month, for micro and small instances. It's not NZ but it's close.

Do you need an NZ IP or just an NZ domain name?

Alternatives:

  • Leave a PC with an associate or family that you can RDP into.
  • Beg/borrow/rent a VPN connection on a server based in NZ or set up a router on a friendly network in NZ that you can VPN into.

Would an NZ based VPN provide what you require?

Overplay provide one with their service

Thank you everyone for your responses.

I will get in touch with ADCL, thank you for that lead Dynamic

Timmmay ... I've used a US based micro instance before, but found it to be incredibly slow. I might try an Australian one - at least to get a feel for how good it is.

A VPN might meet my needs too. I'll look into that option more closely. I do have a desire to use this VPS to connect to a third party site, but to look all the time as if I am coming from the one single machine. A VPN would give me a static IP, but other identifiers (like MAC address) would not be static if I was accessing from multiple machines.

Thanks for your help!
Brett
