Hey guys,

I recently purchased a new domain, and because my free offerings on Google and Outlook.com no longer exist, I am looking toward paying for the Exchange Online (P1) plan in 365.

I am currently signed up to the Trial of 365, to get a better feel for what it's like.. unfortunately, my "taste test" has been a little sour, particularly when looking at the performance.
My understanding is that Microsoft recently opened up a DC in Sydney, however, my speeds are a little crappy, especially when it's only Australia.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Based on this, I'm considering looking at Zoho as an alternative. I won't get to use the Outlook client, but at the end of the day, I barely use my personal email as it is, so have little attachment to that.

What performance problems have you had?

gehenna: What performance problems have you had?

Activesync seemed a little slow to start with, but appears to have sped up a little.

General Web interface is slow, even more so when going through ECP to administer anything or the Admin console.
OWA interface browsing is slowish, but then downloading attachments consistently stayed above 270kb/s

MAPI was incredibly slow. It froze a few times while I was using it.

Maybe my take on what performance I'd be expecting is a little skewed by using on-premise regularly.

That said though, Zoho, hosted in the States I believe, so much quicker, interface wise.

I started the trial this afternoon - so I would presume I am on the Sydney server.
Also, while not scientific, my mailbox server is sy3pr01mb0492.. The two first letters leading me to believe its a Sydney based server.

I didnt know 365 was in AU.

Looking at it from Vodafone UFB I get HK.

You are right in saying that ECP is a bit slow but how often do you need to play around in that? And once OWA has loaded it is just as quick as proper Outlook for loading emails, attachments etc. I think The slight latency is far outweighed by the plethora of features you get for $7.

Our Office 365 is from Singapore and it's not too bad. Only times we really notice it is the lag when you start Outlook and it is communicating with the server, or when there are large email attachments involved.
