A family member has just received an email claiming to be from HostingPlus stating that Domania is shutting down at the end of May. Can anyone confirm that this is legit?

Haven't heard if them, are they an authorised registrar? You can contact the Dnc with any concerns

https://www.domania.co.nz/ ?

Have you tried just contacting them and asking? Looks like they have a contact form right there on their website, along with phone number, email and facebook page.

Hey all Craig here from Hostingplus,

To answer your question Jarno, yes this is legit. If you have any questions feel free to contact us via the contact detail at either domania.co.nz or hostingplus.co.nz

Yes, I was a Domania customer - had quite a bit of communication with them about a week ago after being advised they are shutting down. I've now changed providers.
