I have a client who registered a .com domain via Domainz about a month ago. They are wanting to transfer it away, but I have read that some registrars have a 60 day period after registered the domain, before they will allow it to be transferred. I have contacted Domainz last week, but haven't hear back from them, and they have nothing that I can see on this topic in their help section. Does anyone know what the rules are with this?

That's an ICANN restriction, not something Domainz have put in place.  Any domain that is registered or updated within 60 days can not be transferred.

When you read the fine print, its actually up to the registrar if they want to allow transfer or not but most are lazy and say no.

The fine print applies to domain update tasks.  Commonly, a registrar will put the client transfer lock on when any contact details are updated on the domain - This doesn't need to have the 60 day restriction put in place.  Change of Registrant policy has been recently updated to allow the 60day limit to be removed, I believe.

 

However, a new registration is still subject to it I would have thought.

The registrar can confirm payment in that time period and it allows a registrant time to lodge a complaint for policy breach.
