This probably crosses a few categories but couldn't find the best one, so Cloud/SaaS seems semi-appropriate...

I recently got a Google Home from a very nice GZ member and it's a pretty cool toy.  It's mostly working well, except I have been unable to get my Google Calendar integrated with it.  In fact, when I launch the Google Home app on my Android OR iPhone device, and go to the Calendar settings screen, it just says "Couldn't Retrieve the Settings, Please Check Your Connection".  This is the case on home WiFi, work WiFi, or cellular network.

A bit strange but I checked a few forums and found a number of people with similar issues.  I tried pretty much everything they mentioned, from changing regions to changing settings within the Android OS to allow for services to access Calendar etc, but nothing has helped.

I even had an online chat with the Google Home support people and they've logged a ticket for me, stating that this is something they've heard a bit of noise about and they'll "get back to me when there's a solution".  I'm not too happy with the situation since calendar is a pretty big reason for buying the Google Home in the first place, it's a core service that's not working.  Not that I'm unhappy with the GZ member at all, it's Google's problem!

I'm wondering if anyone else has a Google Home or Mini and if they've got Calendar working on their device?  If so did you have any issues or was it smooth from the start?  Did you have to troubleshoot to get it working?

I have a home and 2 home minis and a few chromecasts and don’t have a problem at all.

Is your Google account gsuite or business account or a @gmail account?
As the home is not officially released in NZ what country setting did you select? Is the Google account a US or NZ based one? (Do you have routines?)

@LennonNZ it's just a regular Gmail.  No reason it shouldn't work as far as I can tell.  Set to NZ now but have tried a variety of regional settings.  Not sure about the Google account actually, probably NZ.  But I've read of US based people with the same issue.

OT: I am all for volunteer work. I used to be one of the editors in DMOZ. But I have to admit I struggle to see how it would be fair to basically work for free for Google on things like Adsense which is a big revenue generator for Google.

Whats the upside for you?

See: https://topcontributor.withgoogle.com/

Most people do it as they like helping people but there are benefits like getting access to Google staff directly, getting access to stuff before others do, stuff I can't talk about due to a NDA and every year we get a free invited (All inclusive)  trip to Google headquarters (last year I was in Mountain View for a week)

Here is a Video of some of last years (This is a mixture of Mountain View, Singapore and Dublin Summits)

Ah, that seems like a fair go. :)

Thanks for that.  I've read and posted on a few threads but had not seen the aggregated Google Home Help Forum.  I'll have a read through that tonight before posting.
