Hello everybody.

I have many clients with really bad and slow loading websites and as we also offer small business IT services, I'm considering getting into hosting. I'm not really handy with Linux and DIY solutions, so the simpler the better. I've read several topics on this forum and found that people recommend OpenHost, WebSlice, Hooplahosting, and a few others.

Which one of these would you recommend in 2018? I understand there have been a lot of changes in the last several years.

I just need something simple that allows me to host at least 10 websites, has SSD storage, hosted in NZ for faster loading speeds and has decent support.

Openhost have undergone a lot of upgrades to their reseller functionality over the last few months with more scheduled in the coming weeks/months.  Could recommend them as a starting point.

Disclaimer:  I used to work for their parent company.  Nothing holding me to the recommendation but I do think it's heading in a really positive direction.

Asked a few question from L1 tech support of OpenHost... I really hope their L2/L3 support is much better.

I had to ask three times what kind of storage is used for reseller plans (website shows 50GB storage) and they just say "50GB storage", "it's on the website", and "see the attach (shows 50GB storage)". Ugh! Thanks, Pankaj, Alkash, Abu Dhabi, and what have you...

Their VPS plan shows HDD - hm... What year is it? 2009?

One other thing I noticed - NZ companies have very low limits on bandwidth. You'd think with fiber everywhere nowadays that wouldn't be the case? Australia companies have 10x more on average - how is it possible?

Found that HooplaHosting actually does have servers in NZ - looks tempting!

IMO reliability comes well above things like storage and bandwidth. So the first question I would ask potential hosts is what their uptime for a server over the last few years, as well as how long they have been around for. Also you need to remember that reseller hosting for some websites isn't likely going to be that fast for some websites. I think it may depend on the host and how what sort of processing resources they allocate to the account. I would prefer to pay more fore something that i know is reliable with good NZ based support 24 hours of the day, and not just on weekdays.

I'm also going to suggest Sitehost: https://sitehost.nz/ if you want "decent".

I dunno.  Was casual racism acceptable in 2009?
